The RISD Museum's Education Department invited local, young (ages
15-24) photographers to become inspired by the photography in the
exhibitions Fantastic Tales: The Photography of Nan Goldin and Urban America,
Working in collaboration with community-based arts organizations,
AS220's Broad Street Studio, New Urban Arts, and RISD's High School Student
Initiative, the Museum encouraged the artists to create new work in
response to the exhibitions. The artists met with curators in the
exhibitions and for a "behind-the-scenes" tour, created new work, and received
feedback from RISD Graduate Students in Photography. The program
culminated in a public presentation of these images on Sunday, January 14,
2007 at The RISD Museum. The event had an enthusiastic, supportive
audience of over 150 people.
