INDEPENDENT STUDY IN COMMUNITY ARTS EDUCATION

RISD Students plan their own independent study under the guidance of a professional teaching artist and an art and design education
faculty member. While students can create their own focus for their course of study, they also have the opportunity to mentor urban high school students in Project Open Door at RISD and area highschools. We also encourage group independent studies for students interested in collaborating on a project.

MENTORING OPPORTUNITIES

Students interested in mentoring opportunities may also apply to the department. The department seeks undergraduate students interested in planning and implementing short-term workshops for high school students. Mentors work with professional teaching artists to plan one or two short art or design units. This is a great opportunity to try out and develop your teaching skills under the supervision of an experienced teaching artist. Available as work study or volunteer opportunity.

If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please reply to this e-mail or contact Kasey Ramirez at 401.277.4826
