My collection was designed and created in collaboration with my close friend and textile designer, Marta Maleck [RISD Textiles '10].  We began thinking about our collection while we were working as interns in New York the summer of 2009, attempting to bridge the gap between New York's commerciality and European craftsmanship.  Our collection is based upon the ephemeral existence of once mighty civilizations and incorporates Aztec and Greek ruins, topographical maps, and early 90's reggae music as reference points.  Marta focused on creating new techniques to 'defy the loom', innovating on the world's oldest way of creating fabric, while I analyzed how to create clothing with the lowest amount of cutting. We choose to use only natural fibers including; silk, linen, pony hide, and ostrich feathers. The result of our development is a collection that is at once both relevant to its time, yet holds a reverence for traditional craftsmanship.
