Paintings and textile work were all created prior to my RISD education. This is just a small sample of a large body of work, mostly paintings, that I created while living in Chicago.
I use textiles to manifest ideas and feelings that are perhaps too powerful for paint and paper alone. Some things demand a physical presence- a commanding force that you can touch and carry. I made this coccoon in my apartment and then carried it with both hands up the stairs to the attic where it now lives, sits, waits.
Most of my paintings/drawings use waterbased media on paper: ink, watercolor, and gouache. I had an enormously productive time painting in Chicago and I hope to share more of that work on this site in the future.

The cocoon is about wrapping oneself in one's surroundings so tightly as to provide a protective covering for going into hibernation. It is about waiting, thinking, reflecting. The cocoon was part of an installation that I did last winter in a vacant room of my attic. Attics are full of mysterious monsters and dreams. The cocoon was a manifestation of my winter anxiety about being trapped indoors.
